Sinterklaas

Today Belgium and The Netherlands celebrate Sinterklaas (Saint Nicolas).  Actually tonight, children that behaved well the whole year will receive gifts from Sinterklaas… Does it sound familiar to you?… Of course the nicest part of this party is to see the happy faces of the little ones opening the gifts that appear like magic in their houses (well actually there are some helpers involved but about this part of the history you can read in http://mafaldillas.wordpress.com/2011/12/02/cartas-a-la-prima-sobre-tradiciones-holandesas/ and http://mafaldillas.wordpress.com/2011/12/05/sinterklaas-en-holanda/ if you can read in Spanish, and if not, the always helpful internet is the best source of information).

This painting is a replica of a postcard by Babette. My daughter loves to put it in our living room and to sing to Sinterklaas to make sure she will receive nice toys.
